hey, i'm ben

I am a multi-disciplinary designer with over a decade of experience in finding the best ways to tell a story. My background is a unique mix, from trackside photography at the Isle of Man TT to managing visual identities for massive corporate firms.

I love making things look good and work even better. Whether I’m animating a logo, laying out a 100 page tender document, or building a brand from scratch, I’m focused on the "why" behind the design and I am always excited for the next challenge.

what I actually do

This portfolio is just the tip of the iceberg. Having spent years working in-house, I have produced thousands of documents, posters and videos. I specialise in taking complicated, dry briefs and turning them into something people actually want to look at.

I am just as comfortable diving into a bespoke InDesign layout as I am keyframing a complex sequence in After Effects. I enjoy the technical puzzles, fixing pixelated logos or figuring out the best way to shoot a scene.

how I got here

My career started with a camera in my hand. My early days as a photographer for a Superbike team taught me how to work under pressure and hit tight deadlines. When your work is being picked up by outlets like BBC Sport, you learn quickly to maintain high standards even when things are moving at 200mph.

That "get stuck in" attitude hasn’t changed. I bring that same energy to every project, whether I am working freelance with a startup or as part of a national in-house team.

how I learned

I’ve found myself doing design in every job I’ve ever had, from newspaper adverts to six foot point of sale posters. After sixth form, I skipped the traditional university route to jump straight into work. I’ve been an Apple Specialist, received a qualification in vehicle parts with Honda and worked for the fraud team at Barclays, but in my mid twenties, I decided to return to my passion for making things.

I spent six months teaching myself the Adobe Creative Suite, eventually moving into the industry and earning Adobe Product Professional qualifications in Illustrator and InDesign. In 2024, I set myself a new challenge. I am currently studying for a Master’s Degree in Graphic Design at Falmouth University, having been accepted based solely on my industry experience and portfolio.
